    Mix liquid ingredients in slow cooker.

    Add all ingredients except arrowroot. Cook low 6 to 8 hours or high 4 to 6.

    Take out about a cup of hot liquid and whisk in arrowroot until smooth. Stir back in.

    Stovetop alternative: all ingredients except arrowroot in a pot. Boil, cover, simmer 45 to 50 minutes. Thicken with arrowroot at end.
